This summer, let’s plan the boating day trips that dreams are made of, all close to home in Denver. From wide-ranging reservoirs to small mountain lakes, there’s an overwhelming number of places to launch your boat and hit the water running. Horsetooth Reservoir

Just west of Fort Collins and about 70 miles from Denver, you’ll find the ever-popular Horsetooth Reservoir. The beautiful reservoir, which stretches over 6 miles long, is ideal for boating. It has a number of distinct coves and bays that make it unique in its own way. With boating, fishing, swimming, scuba diving, and camping around the reservoir, everyone in the family will enjoy it here. If you head out to Horsetooth for the day, make sure you either catch the sunrise, sunset, or both for some epic views. You won’t regret it.

Cherry Creek Reservoir

And if fishing is your thing, stay busy with a stocked lake full of trout and kokanee salmon all season long. Lake Granby is nestled deep within the Rocky Mountains. Lake Granby, along with neighboring Grand Lake and Shadow Mountain Reservoir, are the headwaters of the Colorado River.

Chatfield Reservoir

Each summer, boaters flock to Chatfield Lake to take advantage of its impressive waters close to home. Water skiers, boaters, and fishing enthusiasts all enjoy this little slice of heaven just 23 miles from the Denver metro area. There is a full-service marina onsite, complete with a floating restaurant, too. The area is rich with wildlife viewing, water sports, biking, and camping. There really is something for everyone at Chatfield Lake.
