This summer, let’s plan the boating day trips that dreams are made of, all close to home in Denver. From wide-ranging reservoirs to small mountain lakes, there’s an overwhelming number of places to launch your boat and hit the water running. So what’s close to home, easily accessible, and is as beautiful as it is fun to boat on? Read on for a few of Security Self Storage’s favorites.

Horsetooth Reservoir

Just west of Fort Collins and about 70 miles from Denver, you’ll find the ever-popular Horsetooth Reservoir. The beautiful reservoir, which stretches over 6 miles long, is ideal for boating. It has a number of distinct coves and bays that make it unique in its own way. With boating, fishing, swimming, scuba diving, and camping around the reservoir, everyone in the family will enjoy it here. If you head out to Horsetooth for the day, make sure you either catch the sunrise, sunset, or both for some epic views. You won’t regret it.

Cherry Creek Reservoir

The farthest lake from Denver on our list – but quite possibly the most impressive – is Lake Granby. A cool 94 miles from town, the third-largest body of water in Colorado is a popular destination for boaters, fishermen, and all outdoor lovers, with over 40 miles of shoreline to view. And if fishing is your thing, stay busy with a stocked lake full of trout and kokanee salmon all season long. Lake Granby is nestled deep within the Rocky Mountains. Lake Granby, along with neighboring Grand Lake and Shadow Mountain Reservoir, are the headwaters of the Colorado River.

Chatfield Reservoir
